The Austrian National Council, the lower house of the Austrian parliament, has adopted a resolution condemning any form of anti-Semitism, including anti-Semitism directed at Israel, and calls on the Austrian government to counter such tendencies with resolve. This includes the so-called BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) movement directed at Israel.

Specifically, the government is requested to:

  • to develop, with close involvement of all relevant stakeholders, a comprehensive strategy to prevent and combat all forms of anti-Semitism as part of its efforts to prevent racism, xenophobia, radicalization and violent extremism;

  • to strongly condemn the BDS movement and its objectives, in particular the call to boycott Israeli products, companies, artists, scientists or athletes;

  • not provide premises and infrastructure to organizations and societies that express anti-Semitic views or question Israel's right of existence;

  • not support any events of the BDS movement or groups pursuing its goals, either financially or in any other form;

  • to continue fostering Austria's role as an important place of international dialogue and exchange.

The resolution received unanimous support from all representatives and provides a strong voice for tolerance and the fight against anti-Semitism in Austria and beyond.
