On Monday, January 27, 2020, the Austrian Cultural Forum Washington and the Austrian Embassy’s Press and Information Service, hosted a film screening on the occasion of International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
Ambassador Martin Weiss welcomed some 300 guests and opened the evening with somber words about the importance of Holocaust remembrance before the screening.
The Film You Only Die Twice (2018), by Israeli film makers Yair Lev (director) and David Deri, tells the story of the director’s mother, who became the heiress of a cottage in posh North London. She only had to prove that she is the daughter of Ernst Bechinsky. But then came an astonishing discovery: another death certificate was discovered in Austria, revealing a man with the same name and I.D., born on the same date and in the same place as Ernst Bechinsky. A suspenseful thriller exposes a man, who lived with an SS family and became president of a Jewish Community through deception, leading to an extremely charged meeting between descendants of Jews and Nazis.
The film was produced by David Deri, D.d Productions, for Yes-Docu and was supported by The Yehoshua Rabinovich Foundation for the Arts, Israel. It was co-produced by Markus Glaser for Nikolaus Geyrhalter Filmproduktion (NGF) in Austria. The commissioning editor was Guy Lavie of Israel.
