The ninth edition of the Austrian Leadership Program (ALPS) organized by the Austrian Foreign Ministry took place in Austria from March 11-16, 2018.
Twenty-eight executives and opinion leaders from around the world – including one from the U.S. – were introduced to Austria’s industrial, economic and cultural assets.
After an official kick-off event by Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl and Secretary-General Michael Linhart in Vienna, as well as a visit to the United Nations headquarters in Vienna, the group headed (far) west to the Austrian State of Vorarlberg, embedded into one of the strongest economic regions in Europe.
The ALPS delegation visited the renowned manufacturer of cable cars, ropeways and ski lifts Doppelmayr, the power plant engineering and construction company Bertsch, the beverage manufacturer Rauch, as well as the Alma alpine dairy and the family owned cheese factory Rupp.
On the cultural side, Bregenz showcased as the cultural capital of the region during a visit to Kunsthaus Bregenz and to the Bregenz Festival, famous for its floating opera stage on Lake Constance.
Furthermore, meetings with Bregenz’ Mayor Markus Linhart, President of the Vorarlberg State Parliament Harald Sonderegger as well as Vice-President of the Federation of Austrian Industries Hubert Bertsch were on the agenda.
After their return to Vienna, the ALPS delegation met the spokesperson of the Austrian Federal Government, Peter Launsky-Tieffenthal for an exchange on current topics, as well as Michael Löwy, head of international relations of the Federation of Austrian Industries, who was joined by representatives of major Austrian companies.
