Federal Minister Karoline Edtstadler in Washington, DC

Austrian Federal Minister for the European Union and Constitution Karoline Edtstadler traveled to Washington, DC, to attend this year’s AIPAC Policy Conference. 

On the sidelines of the conference, Minister Edtstadler met with David Harris, CEO of the American Jewish Committee, Congressman Ted Deutch, as well as Canada’s former prime minister Stephen Harper, and visited the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

At the U.S. Department of State, she held a bilateral meeting with Special Envoy for Holocaust Issues Cherrie Daniels on efforts to combat anti-Semitism, particularly through promoting better and broader Holocaust-related education for young people. Minister Edtstadler also met with the Acting Assistant Secretary of State of European and Eurasian Affairs, Ambassador Philip T. Reeker, and Deputy Assistant Secretary Matthew Boyse.

Furthermore, she met with leading experts from several DC-based think tanks for an exchange of views on transatlantic relations and European Union politics. In addition, Minister Edtstadler also stopped by the newsroom of Politico in Arlington, VA, where she met with senior editor Ryan Heath.
