After 31 years of service as the Austrian Honorary Consul-General in Atlanta (responsible for Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee), Ferdinand Seefried retired from the office. He is succeeded as Consul by his son, Paul Seefried, who has already been formally appointed by Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen.

On the occasion, Ferdinand Seefried recalled: “My activity as representative of Austria in the South-East was a very interesting and gratifying activity, in particular because this region experienced during the past 30 years a significant population increase , an increase in economic activity, and also an increase in quality of life for its residents. During my term the business , the cultural, and the academic ties between Austria and the South-East have become close and I believe this trend will continue due to the attractiveness of the region. Let me thank the Austrian Embassy in Washington and all other Austrian Consulates in the U.S. for their cooperation during my term, and let me thank in particular Angelika Heitzmann who has been heading the administration of the Consulate in Atlanta for 20 years. Paul, I wish you success and joy in your new responsibility as Honorary Consul of Austria.”
