Ambassador Hans Peter Manz and the mayor of Salzburg, Heinz Schaden, joined WWII veterans and the Society of the 3rd U.S. Infantry Division for a memorial ceremony at Arlington National Cemetary on May 28, 2015, commemorating the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Salzburg by the 3rd ID in May of 1945.
“The freedom and liberties we enjoy in our open societies seem to be threatened again today by radical and extremist views”, Austrian Ambassador in Washington, D.C. Hans Peter Manz stated. “I therefore wish to commend the Lantos Foundation for Human Rights and Justice and its President Katarina Lantos Swett for their timely initiative #SolidaritySabbath, as a visible sign of hope, tolerance and mutual understanding”.
On May 29, the Embassy hosted the annual lecture sponsored by the Botstiber Institute for Austrian-American Studies. This year’s speaker was Professor Robert Dassanowsky, a scholar of Austrian and European Film and professor of German and film studies at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs.

Summer presents the unique opportunity to experience imperial Vienna without crossing the Atlantic. From June 14 to September 13, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston will show masterpieces from Vienna’s Imperial Collections at the Kunsthistorisches Museum. The exhibition tells the fascinating story of the Habsburg Dynasty, which ruled most of central Europe, Spain, Belgium, and parts of Italy for nearly six hundred years, from the fifteenth through the twentieth centuries.
