Jamaica's Reggae Boyz’ Friendy Match With U.S. Soccer Team in Austria

On March 17, 2021, the Jamaica National Football Team, nicknamed the "Reggae Boyz," stopped by the Austrian Embassy in Washington, DC, to complete the necessary visa formalities ahead of their overseas travel to Austria. The Reggae Boyz faced the U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team for an international friendly match on March 25, 2021 at the Wiener Neustadt Arena in Lower Austria. The match was conducted under the UEFA “Return to Play Protocol” and was played without fans in the stadium. The United States won 4-1.

Ambassador Martin Weiss and Consul General Sigrid Kodym-Herzberg welcomed the soccer delegation from Jamaica in the Embassy’s atrium and wished them all the best for the match. The Vice-President of the Jamaican Football Federation (JFF), Mr. Bruce A. Gaynor, who accompanied his team to Austria, thanked Ambassador Weiss and the Austrian authorities on behalf of JFF and the Government of Jamaica for their support and the expedited visa issuing, despite the travel restrictions in place due to the ongoing pandemic.
