During his working visit to Vienna, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo inaugurated the U.S.-Austria Friendship Tram with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Two Ultra Low Floor-trams are wrapped in red, white and blue and showcase seminal dates in U.S. - Austrian relations, including the inauguration of the Fulbright program, or the signing of the Austrian State Treaty.

The tram serves as a symbol of Austro-American relations and will run on Vienna tramway lines lines 1, 2, 38, 40, 43, and D. For the inauguration, The Secretary of State was joined by U.S. Ambassador Trevor D. Traina, Vienna Mayor Michael Ludwig, and by participants and alumni of the U.S. Embassy Vienna’s Austria to Austin and Austria to Silicon Valley exchange programs. The United States and Austria, as well as Vienna, have "a longstanding cooperation and friendship," Vienna Mayor Michael Ludwig pointed out during the ribbon cutting ceremony.
