Fred Schneider Receives High Austrian Decoration

On September 23, 2019, Secretary General for Foreign Affairs Johannes Peterlik presented the Grand Decoration of Honor, bestowed by Austrian Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen, to the Austrian-American Jewish business consultant Fred Schneider for his outstanding work in Holocaust Education.

Lessons to be Learned from History
Fred Schneider, born in Vienna in 1924, fled to the United States after the Anschluss in 1938. In 1999, the Los-Angeles-resident and his wife Eva established the so-called Fred Schneider Family Award, annually awarded to senior high school students from his “old hometown of Vienna” for distinguished essays in the field of contemporary history.
