From April 11-14, 2019, Bowling Green State University hosted this year’s Annual Conference of the Austrian Studies Association. The conference was jointly organized by Bowling Green State University (BGSU), Ohio, and the Paris-Lodron University of Salzburg, Austria in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the BGSU - University of Salzburg Academic Exchange Program.

The conference, titled Austria in Europe: Migration, Immigration, Integration: Contemporary and Historical Perspectives, brought together over one hundred scholars from the United States, Canada, and Europe to share their latest insights and findings in numerous, specialized panels, including literary studies, film, history, and the social sciences.

In addition, attendees were treated to a screening of the film Der Bauer zu Nathal: Kein Film ueber Thomas Bernhard, followed the next day by a screening of Unten (Down There) with filmmaker Djordje Cenic. The program also included a performance by Austrian rapper YASMO (Yasmin Hafedh) & die Klangkantine.

Official Austria was represented at the conference by Dr. Michael Haider, Director of the Austrian Cultural Forum New York and Dr. Hannes Richter of the Austrian Embassy’s Press and Information Service in the United States.
