On February 11, 2019, Austrian Federal Minister of Labor, Social Affairs, Health and Consumer Protection Beate Hartinger-Klein presented Austria’s perspective on addressing inequalities and challenges to social inclusion at the 70th session of the United Nation’s Commission for Social Development in New York City. In her statement, Minister Hartinger-Klein emphasized that Austria is committed to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are vital to improving people's lives around the globe. "Combatting poverty and social exclusion are key elements of both the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its SDGs.”

At the United Nations, the minister met with Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed. She also held talks with Dr. Willibald Zeck, Head of Global Maternal, Newborn and Adolescent Health Program at the United Nations Children's Fund, as well as with Jayathma Wickramanayake, who currently serves as the United Nations Secretary-General's Envoy on Youth.
During her visit in New York City, Minister Hartinger-Klein held a meeting at Selfhelp Community Services, one of the largest and most respected not-for-profit senior service agencies in the New York metropolitan area. Selfhelp was founded in 1936 to help those fleeing Nazi Germany maintain their independence and dignity as they struggled to forge new lives in America.

She spoke with New York State Senator Roxanne J. Persaud and met with the Austrian Assistant Professor Dr. Christian Forst from the Department of Genetics and Genomic Sciences and Senior Vice President of Perioperative Services Dr. Michael McCarry at the Mount Sinai-Hospital.

Besides, Minister Hartinger-Klein visited the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, the One World Trade Center Oberservatory and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which is under the direction of Austrian Max Hollein since last summer.
