Historian Günter Bischof Awarded Science Prize of the Year in His Home State

Historian Günter Bischof was awarded the “Science Prize of the Year” by his home state of Vorarlberg on November 11, 2019. Bischof, a native of Mellau, Vorarlberg, studied history and English at the University of Innsbruck before earning a Master’s degree at The University of New Orleans and a Ph.D. at Harvard University. Today, he is the Austrian Marshall Plan Chair in History at The University of New Orleans, where he also directs the Austrian Marshall Plan Center for European Studies, which recently marked its 20-year anniversary. The Center has been fostering academic cooperation between New Orleans and Austrian universities, including a vivid faculty and student exchange.

The prize was bestowed by Vorarlberg’s Governor Markus Wallner during a ceremony at the state capitol, followed by celebrations with friends and colleagues.
