The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) has awarded Kapsch TrafficCom (Kapsch) a 10-year-contract for the next generation of its electronic toll collection system. The new tolling system will include replacing existing toll-lane terminals and all associated hardware and software.
The Austrian company was awarded the toll system and services contract, which includes all systems and operational activities related to building accurate transactions. The project will be managed locally from the Kapsch office in Rockville, Maryland.
The $71.9 million contract commenced in February 2018 and includes the replacement of all toll equipment, expected to be converted to the Kapsch system by 2020, and six years of subsequent operations and maintenance as well as the option to extend the contract for additional four years.
