Kafka?! An Interdisciplinary Conference in Honor of Walter Sokel

An interdisciplinary conference at the University of Virginia explored one of Europe's quintessential authors, Franz Kafka, between February 25-27, 2015. The three day event included lectures, discussions and film screenings.

100 years after the first publication of the "Metamorphosis" and after the emergence of "The Trial", Franz Kafka is one of the most interpreted authors of European modernism, but still one of the enigmatic. It seems that everybody is looking for the final clue to "The Castle" but nobody has found it yet. The fascination continues and even after a century of reception history, research is ongoing.

Ambassador Manz Spoke at the University of Virginia

Upon invitation by the Center for Politics and the Center for German Studies, Ambassador Hans Peter Manz participated in a political discussion at the home of political analyst and UVA professor Larry Sabato on February 26, 2015. Ambassador Manz spoke about the U.S. and Austria's cooperation to address common challenges, including the Ukraine crisis and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).

Lecture on Hands-on Urbanism

Lecture on Hands-on Urbanism

Cultural theorist and urban researcher Elke Krasny delivered a lecture accompanying her exhibition Hands-On Urbanism. The Right to Green at the University of Maryland's Kibel Gallery, School of Architecture, Planning & Preservation on February 25, 2015.

Krasny's lecture focused on case studies of urban gardening, urban farming, and self-help building. It emphasized critical alignments between urban dwellers and activists, architects, artists, educators or political philosophers.

Upcoming: The Minetti Quartet

The Austrian Cultural Forum Washington is pleased to present the Minetti Quartett on March 13, 2015 at the Austrian Embassy.

The Minetti Quartett has collected important prizes since 2003 when it received the Haydn Award at the International Joseph Haydn Competition in Vienna, followed by awards at the International Rimbotti Competition for String Quartet in Florence and the Franz Schubert Competition in Graz as well as winning the national "Gradus ad Parnassum" Prize.
