170 guests joined the opening ceremony of Habsburg Splendor at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts (MFAH). The director of Vienna’s Kunsthistorisches Museum (KHM) Sabine Haag attended the opening alongside MFAH director Gary Tinterow and a “21st century Habsburg”, Maria-Anna Galitzine, who happens to call Houston her home.
The MFAH has been hosting the famous Habsburg from the KHM in Vienna since June 14. The exhibition is telling the story of the Habsburg dynasty which ruled most of central Europe, Spain, Belgium, and parts of Italy for nearly six hundred years.
The unprecedented exhibition presents a wide-ranging sample of the Habsburgs’ acclaimed collections, including classical Greek and Roman works, medieval arms and armor, Old Master paintings, and opulent costumes. It is the first time that audiences in the United States have an opportunity to view these exceptional and rare artworks.
The exhibition will be running until September 13.
