Austrian Innovation

Science and Innovation is a part of Austria as much as Mozart, the Viennese waltz and Schnitzel. Austrian companies operate successfully around the world, and Austrian scientists work and research at the most prestigious universities in Europe, Asia and the U.S.

• Austria has the 3rd highest industrial output per capita
• 31% of Austria's GDP is based on manufacturing
• Some 45% of all jobs in Austria are directly or indirectly connected/ dependent on the industrial sector
• Austria is a top innovator: 3% of GDP is spent on R&D. In the international innovation scoreboard, which was recently presented at the 2018 CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas, NV, Austria ranked 12th.

It is Austria's mission to help achieve a sustainable economic environment and a society low in emissions, resource-efficient and ecologically sound. Reflecting its commitment to these goals, Austrian companies have been able to establish a remarkable lead in green technologies and positioned the country as one of the world leaders in ecological construction in general and in the technology of passive house building in particular.

The Office of Science and Technology Austria in Washington DC, is working to bridge research and innovation between Austria and North America.
