On April 28, 2014, Austrian Ambassador Hans Peter Manz and Rector Christa Neuper of the University of Graz together with around 35 guests celebrated the launch of a new chapter of the University of Graz in Washington, D.C. By establishing chapters the University of Graz is building a strong international network to be able to stay in touch with former students, alumni and friends of the University that live across the globe. So far chapters exist in New York, Zurich, Moscow, Brussels, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Turkey. The chapter in Washington D.C. will be headed by the Austrian Embassy's Deputy Chief of Mission, Sigurd Pacher.

From May 14-16, 2014, Mr. Sigurd Pacher served as keynote speaker for People to People International’s (PTPI) Americas Regional Meeting in Kansas City, Missouri. Mr. Pacher met with Clark Plexico, CEO of PTPI, and several leaders of the organization in addition to participating in meetings with business and community leaders in Kansas City. On May 15, 2014, Mr. Pacher led a market briefing on doing business with Austria for Kansas City businesses in partnership with the World Trade Center Kansas City.

On May 16, 2014, the Center for Transatlantic Relations at the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at Johns Hopkins University together with the Embassy of Austria hosted an all-day event commemorating the opening of the Iron Curtain on the Austrian-Hungarian border 25 years ago. The event, which took place at the School of Advanced International Studies of John Hopkins University, featured three individual panel discussions focused on “Remembering 1989: Opening of the Iron Curtain”, “1989 in the Context of Today’s Challenges” and “The wall still to fall – for a new generation”.  

On May 21, 2014, the Embassy of Austria together with the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum hosted a special screening of the HBO documentary "50 Children: The Rescue Mission of Mr. and Mrs. Kraus." The film which was produced in association with the museum chronicles the efforts of Gilbert Kraus and his wife, Eleanor -  two Americans who undertook the successful rescue of 50 Jewish children from Vienna after Kristallnacht, the worst outbreak of organized violence instigated by the Nazi regime against Jews until this point.

On May 28, 2014, the Austrian Embassy celebrated the release of the book “Relationships/Beziehungsgeschichten: Austria and the United States in the Twentieth Century,” written by Guenter Bischof, Chair and Marshall Plan Professor of History at the University of New Orleans.

On May 21, 2014, Mrs. Andrea Kaufmann, the Mayor of Dornbirn, the largest town in the state of Vorarlberg, visited Drexel University in Philadelphia as head of a high-ranking delegation. Drexel University was founded in 1891 as the Drexel Institute of Art, Science and Industry by the banker and philanthropist Anthony Joseph Drexel (1826-1893), the son of Dornbirn-born painter and banker Franz Martin Drexel (1792-1863), who immigrated to the U.S. in 1817.

On May 30, 2014, the Botstiber Institute for Austrian-American Studies hosted a panel discussion entitled “Espionage and Intelligence in the 21st Century: How did we get here and where do we go from here? – An Austrian-American Discussion” at the Austrian Embassy. Speakers included Audrey Kurth Cronin (George Mason University), James Jay Carafano (Heritage Foundation), Timothy Naftali (New York University), Siegfried Beer (University of Graz), John Irvin (NOIR for USA), Guenter Bischof (CenterAustria, University of New Orleans).
