From January 26 to 28, 2018, Ambassador Wolfgang Waldner visited Philadelphia, one of the historically most significant cities in the United States. At City Hall, Ambassador and Mrs. Waldner were welcomed with a “Liberty Bell” by Lieutenant Governor Mike Stack of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and City Representative Sheila Hess.

On his mission to foster Austrian-American relations, Ambassador Waldner met with Philadelphia regional political, business and civic leaders at an event hosted by Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health and its President and CEO, Dr. Stephen Klasko.

Furthermore, he met with the North-American company executives of Greiner Packing, a plastic packaging manufacturer from Kremsmuenster, Upper Austria. Their US production site is in Pittston, PA.

At Drexel University, Ambassador Waldner visited President John A. Fry. Drexel was founded by the son of Philadelphia financier and philanthropist Francis Martin Drexel, who was born in Dornbirn, Austria.

Saturday was entirely devoted to culture and the arts: Ambassador and Mrs. Waldner enjoyed private tours of the famed Barnes Collection, the brand new Museum of the American Revolution, Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. The Waldners accompanied by Austrian Honorary Consul Greg Montanaro also attended as guests of honor the Philadelphia Orchestra’s 161st Anniversary Concert & Ball at the Academy of Music, and met with Governor Tom Wolf, Congressman Brendan Boyle, Philadelphia Orchestra co-president Ryan Fleur and conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin.
