Hands-On Urbanism. The Right to Green explores urban gardening through the lens of specific historic constellations, dynamics of migration, and the politics of space. Curated by cultural theorist and urban researcher Elke Krasny, the exhibition critically unveils a multifaceted history of citizen-led acts leading to collective community ambition, counteracting urban crisis, austerity, and economic pressures. Taking root from below, these self-organized and self-help practices, often in alliance with architects or artists, are dynamic and inspiring agencies of urban change. The fate of the empty lot starts with a seed.

Hands-On Urbanism. The Right to Green was first shown at the Architecture Centre Vienna (Architekturzentrum Wien) and then at the 2012 Venice Biennale for Architecture.

On January 14, the Austrian Cultural Forum in Washington, D.C. will host the opening of an outstanding exhibition featuring works by Martin Karplus. Karplus, who is a Professor emeritus at Harvard University and Nobel laureate, spent the past fifty years documenting humanity in thousands of photographs. From Europe to Asia and America, his work is celebrated as an historical documentation of changes, social movements and big milestones in human being.

4th Annual Hanukkah Celebration

On December 18, 2014 the Austrian Embassy, in partnership with the Washington Regional Office of the American Jewish Committee (AJC) and AJC ACCESS, (AJC's Young Professionals Program), hosted the 4th annual Hanukkah celebration. After welcoming remarks, the Ambassador together with Alan Ronkin (Director of AJC Washington) and Nelson France (Co-Chair of AJC ACCESS) lit the candles of the Menorah while singer Ellie Greenberg entertained the guests with Hanukkah classics. Following the ceremony, a buffet dinner was served in the atrium of the Embassy providing the guests with an opportunity to mix and mingle.
